She Only Needs The Trip

Header_SONTT_SONT_Trip_2aWith the Euros now firmly in the past, the new season is almost upon us – thank god! Well unless you’re a Hull fan perhaps. Only 13 fit players on the books and your manager has walked out – a long road lies ahead it seems. Just like it does for Mr Red and Mr Blue, or to be a bit more precise long train and bus journeys as the boys from SONTT have made a pact to attend lower league football matches across the UK and bring you our new ‘She Only Needs The Trip’ series.

We’ve decided to do this for a few reasons – to get out, about and see more (PUBS), rather than sitting in the same old Irish boozer watching Jeff and the Boys – to see more Football in the flesh (ABUSE SOME FOOTBALLERS) and experience the atmosphere at many more grounds, whilst along the way ticking off some more of the 92 (we’re currently both in the 20s so there’s a way to go yet!) – and finally, to write about our travels and experiences, from along the way.

We want to share with you the great stories you can have exploring random Football matches, we hope to get more people out watching Football rather than relying solely on Sky and BT coverage before forming a so called rounded knowledge base on all things Football. Really the only prerequisite is a liking of Football and some spare dough for the weekend – hopefully won from the weeks tips. Liking beer always helps too. Of course this doesn’t have to be limited to Football, it really can be any sport and I’m sure over the season there will be some stories from a whole array of sporting arenas.

Our first trip of the season is taking us to the East End and Dagenham & Redbridge v Southport in the National Conference. This is the Daggers first game since relegation from the Football League last term as they look to head straight back out of the league where they started life, after the merger of Redbridge Forest and Dagenham in 1992. The match will take place at Victoria Road (or Chigwell Construction Stadium for sponsorship reasons) which has a capacity nudging over 6,000 (Let’s hope we get tickets) where local lad and ex-Luton boss John Still overseas the playing squad. Daggers most famous win of recent times was probably the 09/10 League 2 play-off final where they defeated Rotherham 3-2 to gain promotion to League one for the first time.

Mr Blue can’t wait to see the current Southport and ex Man Utd striker, Jon Cofie, who he assures me was an absolute gem of a find for the lower leagues on Football Manager. He is what can only be described as a Footy manager savant and could probably name the lineups of both sides and who they used to play for loool.

While we are aiming to attend quite a few events this year, we are however limited by money, work, location and our own sides playing at the same time. So if there are any sides you would like us to cover, or any sides you personally would like to attend and write a report on please let us know by either commenting below or emailing sheonlyneedsthetip@gmail.com. (Here is your chance to tell us why your club or sport is the best around!)
